New Tattoo Ink Can Be Switched On With UV Light And Disappear In Sunlight

Researchers have developed a novel tattoo ink, PhotoTat, that can be activated by ultraviolet light and made to disappear in sunlight. The ink uses specially engineered pigments enclosed in nanoparticles that respond to different light wavelengths. Once activated by UV light, the colours remain visible for hours or days but fade rapidly in bright sunlight. Tests showed the colours remained switchable in skin for up to 2.2 years, suggesting potential medical applications beyond temporary body art.
