Bharatiya Janata Party's Dinesh Arya has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Uttarakhand. The election was necessitated by the upcoming end of incumbent MP Naresh Bansal's term on November 25. No other candidate filed nomination papers for the seat, leading to Arya's unopposed victory. Arya, a Dalit leader from Kumaon and vice-chairperson of the State Drinking Water Monitoring Committee, is seen as the BJP's outreach to the community ahead of assembly elections. The Congress party decided not to contest due to insufficient numbers in the state assembly.
