Siberia Lab Accident: Technician Dies After Test Tube Break

A 28-year-old lab technician, Daria Shipilova, has died from severe pneumonia symptoms at the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Research Institute in Siberia. Reports suggest a test tube containing live bacteria, possibly Yersinia pestis which causes plague, broke while she was collecting samples in late September. Russian health authorities have attributed her death to 'pneumonia of unknown cause' and deny any accident involving infectious bacteria. Approximately 200 people are under medical observation, with some quarantined in hospitals, though no infections have been confirmed.
