Jordan Sank Retired C-130 Hercules Aircraft Off Aqaba To Create Artificial Reef

Jordan deliberately sank a retired 30-metre C-130 Hercules aircraft off Aqaba in 2017 to establish an artificial reef. The aircraft now rests about 16 metres underwater, attracting coral, fish, and other marine life. This initiative by the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, in cooperation with the Royal Jordanian Navy and Aqaba Port Corporation, repurposed the military transport plane. Hazardous materials were removed before sinking, creating a new habitat and a unique attraction for divers near other underwater sites.
