Four first-year university students have created an innovative, electricity-free vaccine tracker costing just $5 to produce. This device can identify if vaccine shipments have been exposed to freezing temperatures, a common issue that damages vaccines and undermines immunisation programs, especially in areas with poor cold-chain infrastructure. The team, named Kalyb, won a £7,000 prize at Imperial College London's Make-A-Difference! programme. They plan to test their invention in Nigeria next April to assess its real-world effectiveness in preserving vaccine integrity.
