Farmers Protest Sugar Mills' Crushing Plans Before Cane Price Is Fixed

Farmers in Haveri staged a protest outside the residence of the local minister, Rudrappa Lamani, opposing sugar factories' plans to begin crushing sugarcane before a purchase price is fixed. Protesters arrived with a tractor loaded with sugarcane, demanding Rs 5,500 per tonne, which includes FRP, SAP, and factory contributions. They alleged that GM Sugars units were preparing to start crushing despite assurances that operations would be delayed until the price was set.
