The Supreme Court has strongly criticized the Chhattisgarh High Court for its handling of a murder case, expressing dismay over the alteration of charges from Section 302 (murder) to Section 304 Part I and Part II (culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code. A bench led by Justice J.B. Pardiwala described the High Court's understanding of these fundamental legal sections as "pathetic." The apex court noted that such basic legal principles are taught in the first year of law school.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने एक हत्या के मामले में छत्तीसगढ़ हाई कोर्ट के कामकाज की कड़ी आलोचना की है। कोर्ट ने भारतीय दंड संहिता की धारा 302 (हत्या) से धारा 304 भाग I और भाग II (गैर इरादतन हत्या) में आरोपों को बदलने पर निराशा व्यक्त की। जस्टिस जे.बी. पारदीवाला की अगुवाई वाली एक पीठ ने हाई कोर्ट की इन मौलिक कानूनी धाराओं की समझ को 'दयनीय' बताया। शीर्ष अदालत ने कहा कि ऐसे बुनियादी कानूनी सिद्धांत कानून के पहले साल में पढ़ाए जाते हैं।
