Ukraine is planning to develop its own independent satellite communications system due to ongoing issues with the US-operated Starshield service. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a partnership with Finnish companies, including Nokia and ICEYE, to build the system, which is crucial for national defence and resilience. The Ukrainian military has faced disruptions to its war effort and air defence capabilities due to these connectivity problems.
