Thevar Jayanthi & Guru Puja Begin Amid Tight Police Security in Tamil Nadu

Hundreds gathered at U Muthuramalinga Thevar's memorial in Pasumpon, Tamil Nadu, to mark his 119th birth anniversary and 64th guru puja. The event commenced under extensive police security, involving 10,000 personnel, 400 CCTV cameras, and 38 observation towers. Traffic regulations were also enforced in Ramanathapuram and Madurai. Thevar, a freedom fighter and social reformer, is commemorated annually on October 30 for his role in the independence movement and social reforms, including his fight against the Criminal Tribes Act and the 1939 temple entry movement.
