Solicitor-General to Represent Karnataka in Supreme Court Bike-Taxi Case
The Hindu · india
Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta will represent the Karnataka government before the Supreme Court in an appeal against a High Court decision that allowed bike-taxis. The state argues that allowing motorcycles as taxis ignores their poor safety standards, higher accident rates, and contributes to congestion. Karnataka contends its restrictions are reasonable and proportionate, noting that motorcycle riders have alternative livelihood options under a 2025 welfare act. The High Court had previously ruled that aggregators and owners have a right to permits for operating motorcycles as taxis.
