Delhi is set to deploy 2,500 AI-enabled cameras as part of a ₹1,789.52 crore Intelligent Traffic Management System. These cameras will monitor traffic violations like speeding, helmet use, and illegal parking, feeding data to a central command centre. Digital rights experts, however, are concerned about the lack of a data protection framework, warning that the project could evolve into an unchecked surveillance apparatus. They highlight worries about data storage, access, and potential future integration with private entities, deeming it a significant public expenditure with privacy risks.
