CAG Flags Odisha GST Recovery Shortfall

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has identified significant gaps in Odisha's GST compliance and tax recovery. An audit covering 2020-21 to 2022-23 revealed tax demands of over ₹2,500 crore, with only about ₹110 crore recovered. In selected cases, ₹1,078 crore in demands yielded just ₹19.94 crore in recovery. The audit also found instances of excess input tax credit and unfulfilled tax liabilities amounting to hundreds of crores. Weaknesses in the electronic way bill system were also highlighted, indicating potential revenue leakage.
