Petitioners argued that the order suffered from non-application of mind and that Phensedyl cough syrup, containing codeine, is not a narcotic drug under the NDPS Act. इलाहाबाद हाई कोर्ट ने करोड़ों रुपये के कोडाइन सिरप तस्करी रैकेट के संबंध में PITNDPS अधिनियम के तहत दो व्यक्तियों, विबोर राणा और विशाल सिंह, की हिरासत को रद्द कर दिया है। अदालत ने उनकी बंदी प्रत्यक्षीकरण याचिकाओं को स्वीकार कर लिया, जिससे 7 जुलाई के हिरासत आदेश को रद्द कर दिया गया। याचिकाकर्ताओं ने तर्क दिया कि आदेश में दिमाग का अनुप्रयोग नहीं हुआ था और यह कि कोडाइन युक्त फेनसेडिल कफ सिरप NDPS अधिनियम के तहत नशीला पदार्थ नहीं है। यह फैसला कोडाइन-आधारित सिरप की कथित अवैध तस्करी में शामिल व्यक्तियों की निवारक हिरासत को प्रभावित करता है।
