भारत ने लद्दाख में 14,000 फीट की गहराई पर अपने पहले जियोथर्मल कुएं चालू कर दिए हैं। ये दो गहरे कुएं इस क्षेत्र में एक मेगावाट के जियोथर्मल पावर प्लांट की स्थापना की दिशा में एक बड़ा कदम हैं। इस अनूठे प्रोजेक्ट का मकसद धरती की प्राकृतिक गर्मी का उपयोग करके टिकाऊ ऊर्जा बनाना है, जिससे जीवाश्म ईंधन पर निर्भरता कम हो सके और दूरदराज के इलाकों को स्वच्छ बिजली मिल सके।
