The West Bengal government is considering allowing Chhath Puja rituals at Rabindra Sarobar and Subhas Sarobar this year, seven years after a National Green Tribunal ban was enforced. State urban development minister Agnimitra Paul stated that safeguards would be implemented to prevent pollution. The ban, aimed at protecting the lakes' ecology, has kept devotees away since 2019. The government plans to seek permission from the NGT and Supreme Court, while also preparing alternative ghats with facilities for devotees.
