Matthew Hayden Slams Australian Selectors For Promoting Mediocrity

Hindustan Times · sports

Former Australian batter Matthew Hayden has launched a scathing critique of the national selection panel, calling their choices a "greatest pile of mediocrity." He specifically questioned the recall of Nic Maddinson for the Test series against South Africa, citing his lack of recent first-class cricket. Hayden believes selectors are promoting players averaging 35, expecting them to perform at a much higher Test level, which he deems unrealistic. He also criticized Mitchell Marsh's selection, suggesting a lack of desire to play the longer format of the game.
