Delhi's Air Quality Worst Before 9 AM Due To Temperature Inversions
The Better India · lifestyle
Delhi's air pollution is often at its peak in the early morning hours, typically until 8:30 or 9 am, according to AIIMS. This phenomenon is caused by temperature inversions, where warmer air traps cooler, polluted air near the ground like a lid. Delhi's geographical location in a natural bowl, coupled with slower winds and the absence of monsoon rains after October, exacerbates the problem by preventing pollutants from dispersing effectively. Researchers suggest that pollution control policies should align with weather forecasts, anticipating inversions rather than reacting to existing smog.
