Bank of Korea Sold $9.6 Billion in Q2 to Support Weakening Won

Economic Times Markets · stocks

South Korea's central bank intervened in the market by selling a net $9.612 billion in the second quarter to counter the won's weakness. This marks the seventh consecutive quarter of such intervention, following a $13.628 billion sale in the first quarter. The won reached its lowest point since March 2009 during April-June, despite the central bank's efforts. These sustained dollar-selling operations highlight ongoing global currency market pressures and a stronger U.S. dollar, which can increase imported costs and inflation in South Korea.
