Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar has strongly criticised the BCCI's decision to schedule India A tours concurrently with the Ranji Trophy season. He argues that these 'shadow tours', like the upcoming one to New Zealand, dilute the importance of India's premier domestic competition. Vengsarkar questions the purpose of the Ranji Trophy if top domestic players are unavailable due to national A-team commitments. He believes this practice devalues performances in the domestic circuit and suggests that if acclimatisation is needed, the main team should travel earlier.
