FIFA President Gianni Infantino Ineligible For Fourth Term, Says Ex-Governance Chief

Former FIFA governance chief Miguel Maduro stated that FIFA President Gianni Infantino is ineligible for a fourth term in 2027, citing Article 33 of the FIFA statutes. Maduro explained that Infantino has already served three terms, and the rule makes no distinction for incomplete mandates. Human rights group FairSquare has also urged member associations to declare Infantino ineligible. Infantino previously argued his first partial term should not count towards the limit, a stance confirmed by the FIFA Council in 2022.
