सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने केंद्र सरकार से पूछा है कि 100% इथेनॉल पर चलने के लिए डिज़ाइन की गई कारों के लिए पर्याप्त ईंधन की सप्लाई करना कितना संभव है। कोर्ट ने कहा कि सरकार फ्लेक्स-फ्यूल वाले वाहन जो 100% इथेनॉल पर चल सकते हैं, उन्हें चलाने की इजाज़त देने के लिए नियम बदल रही है, लेकिन एक बड़ा सवाल यह है कि क्या यह ईंधन उपलब्ध होगा। सरकार के अटॉर्नी जनरल ने माना कि उत्पादन और निर्माण प्रणालियों में बड़े बदलाव करने होंगे। कोर्ट ने इस बात पर भी ज़ोर दिया कि इथेनॉल नीति में सिर्फ ईंधन और पर्यावरण के पहलू ही नहीं, बल्कि किसानों के हितों का भी ध्यान रखना चाहिए।
