California Court Rules Rental Income Cannot Reduce Inheritance Shares

A California inheritance dispute involving five siblings has been resolved by the Court of Appeal. The court ruled that an equalisation clause in a trust allowed deductions for unpaid loans and unequal gifts, but not for rental income or property sale proceeds. This decision reversed a significant part of a lower court's ruling that had treated such financial benefits as early distributions to be deducted from two brothers' shares.
