Perseverance Rover Sets New Mars Driving Record, Surpassing Opportunity's Milestone

NASA's Perseverance rover has achieved a significant milestone, becoming the first vehicle to drive 28.10 miles on another world. This record was set after five and a half years on Mars, surpassing the previous record of 28.06 miles held by the Opportunity rover over nearly 15 years. Perseverance's advanced autonomous navigation system, AutoNav, allows it to "think while driving," enabling faster travel and more efficient exploration of Mars' diverse geology. The rover's extended mission will continue its exploration through approximately the end of 2028.
