Ford's Amazon Town Failed Despite Huge Investment

In 1927, Henry Ford established Fordlandia in the Amazon rainforest, aiming to create a self-sufficient rubber plantation. The town featured amenities like a pool and cinema, but struggled for seventeen years to produce sufficient rubber. Ford's industrial approach and strict rules, including bans on alcohol and tobacco, clashed with local customs. This led to worker dissatisfaction and a riot in 1930, ultimately contributing to the venture's failure.

हेनरी फोर्ड ने 1927 में अमेज़न के जंगल में फोर्डलैंडिया बसाया था। उनका मकसद रबर का एक आत्मनिर्भर बागान बनाना था। वहाँ स्विमिंग पूल और सिनेमाघर जैसी सुविधाएं भी थीं। लेकिन 17 साल तक रबर का उत्पादन ठीक से नहीं हो पाया। फोर्ड का औद्योगिक तरीका और शराब-बीड़ी पर पाबंदी जैसे सख्त नियम स्थानीय लोगों को पसंद नहीं आए। इससे मजदूरों में नाराजगी फैली और 1930 में दंगा हो गया, जिससे यह प्रोजेक्ट फेल हो गया।
