Feral Dogs Pose Major Threat To Vultures In Thar Desert
The Hindu - Science · science
A recent study published in Biological Conservation has identified feral dogs as a significant threat to vultures in Rajasthan's Thar desert. Scientists observed that vultures spend considerably less time feeding at dumpsites with dogs compared to dog-free enclosures. This finding is critical as vulture populations in India have already experienced catastrophic declines, with numbers plummeting by over 90% in the 1990s due to diclofenac poisoning. The presence of aggressive dogs at feeding sites could impede recovery efforts for these endangered birds.
