Municipal officials in Pernambut, Vellore, demolished around 60 encroachments, including houses and shops, on Iyengar Road. The structures, many over a decade old, had reduced the road width from 40 feet to 20 feet, impacting traffic and pedestrian safety, especially for students. The drive, ordered by Collector P.S. Leena Alex, aims to restore road space, improve access for ambulances, and clear a blocked water channel. Affected families will receive alternative land.
