Global Shipping Crisis More Risky Than Stock Market, Says Harvard Professor

TV9 Hindi · business

A Harvard professor has stated that global shipping, which handles over 80% of world trade, is inherently riskier than the stock market. Disruptions in maritime trade can cause faster and more dangerous fluctuations than stock market volatility. Congestion at ports, caused by a sudden surge in ships, creates long queues, reducing network capacity and significantly increasing shipping costs. Geopolitical tensions, such as those in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz, along with conflicts like the Russia-Ukraine war, have led to longer routes and increased freight charges.
