India's recent foreign-exchange curbs have created confusion among bankers, with some interpreting the cash-margin requirement broadly and halting quotes for rupee forwards. Seven bankers indicated they would not quote dollar/rupee forwards due to concerns the directive might extend to interbank transactions. However, a source familiar with the central bank's stance clarified that the requirement was not intended for interbank dealings. Bankers are now awaiting further clarity from the Reserve Bank of India on the scope of these new regulations.
