An economics professor at Ashoka University has stated that India and Japan's trade relationship remains 'minuscule,' despite significant strategic cooperation. Prachi Mishra highlighted untapped potential in semiconductors, rare earths, institutional investment, and skilled labour, noting that Japan's share in India's trade has fallen from over 10% in the 1980s to just 1-2% now. Deeper economic integration could help both nations diversify supply chains and enhance economic resilience amidst global geopolitical uncertainty and economic fragmentation. This collaboration is crucial for India's ambition to become a developed economy within two decades.
