Kerala HC Directs Assembly Speaker to Decide on Mani C Kappan's Disqualification as MLA
Times of India · politics
The Kerala High Court has instructed the State Assembly Speaker to promptly decide on the disqualification of MLA Mani C Kappan. This follows Kappan's conviction and sentencing in cheque cases totaling Rs 3.25 crore. A petitioner argued that a conviction with a sentence of two years or more warrants disqualification under the Representation of the People Act. Kappan contested this, arguing individual sentences were less than two years and that disqualification matters fall under the Governor's purview.
