उत्तर प्रदेश में 24 साल के लोग ग्राम प्रधान का चुनाव लड़ सकते हैं, क्योंकि UP पंचायत राज अधिनियम, 1947 के अनुसार न्यूनतम आयु सीमा 21 साल है। वोट देने की उम्र 18 साल है, लेकिन चुनाव लड़ने के इच्छुक उम्मीदवारों को सिर्फ उम्र के अलावा अन्य कानूनी शर्तों को भी पूरा करना होगा। नामांकन के लिए ज़रूरी दस्तावेज़ों में निवास प्रमाण, वोटर लिस्ट में नाम, आयु प्रमाण, पहचान प्रमाण, जाति प्रमाण पत्र (यदि लागू हो), नो-ड्यूज़ प्रमाण पत्र, संपत्ति और आपराधिक इतिहास का विवरण देने वाला एक हलफनामा और उसी ग्राम पंचायत का एक प्रस्तावक शामिल है। उम्मीदवारों के पास लाभ का कोई सरकारी पद भी नहीं होना चाहिए।
