Sebi, RBI to Simplify Foreign Investor Onboarding and Develop Bond Indices

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) are collaborating to streamline the onboarding and registration process for foreign portfolio investors (FPIs). Sebi Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey stated that the goal is to make FPI registration faster, seamless, and digital, with successful tests for five-day onboarding from certain jurisdictions. Additionally, the regulators are working on developing bond indices for exchanges, with RBI having released draft guidelines for public comment. These initiatives aim to enhance foreign investment accessibility and develop India's bond market infrastructure.
