India is significantly boosting its domestic defence industry to achieve strategic autonomy and reduce foreign dependence. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced a target of ₹3 trillion in defence production and ₹50,000 crore in defence exports by 2029. Defence production has already surged from ₹46,429 crore in 2014-15 to ₹1.78 trillion in 2025-26, with exports rising to approximately ₹40,000 crore. The government is increasing budgetary support and capital acquisition to modernise the military and enhance its preparedness for evolving warfare paradigms.
