Nandigram Nominee Withdraws, Congress Pick Arrested

In a dramatic turn of events for the Nandigram bypoll, Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool nominee Sanchita Pradhan Dey withdrew her candidature. Shortly after, Congress candidate Milan Pradhan was arrested on charges dating back to 2007. This has led non-BJP parties to accuse state agencies of unfairly favouring the BJP in the upcoming byelection. The Trinamool faction, now named Mamata All India Trinamool Congress, has pledged to support the Congress candidate.

नंदीग्राम उपचुनाव में बड़ा उलटफेर हुआ है। ममता बनर्जी की तृणमूल उम्मीदवार संचिता प्रधान डे ने अपना नाम वापस ले लिया। इसके तुरंत बाद, कांग्रेस उम्मीदवार मिलन प्रधान को 2007 के एक मामले में गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया। इससे गैर-भाजपा दल राज्य एजेंसियों पर भाजपा के पक्ष में काम करने का आरोप लगा रहे हैं। अब ममता ऑल इंडिया तृणमूल कांग्रेस ने कांग्रेस उम्मीदवार का समर्थन करने का वादा किया है।
