Extreme heat is creating a new crisis point for maternal and newborn health globally, according to UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Simon Stiell. A survey revealed 73% of maternal health professionals, including in India, have seen more heat-linked complications in the last five years. Nearly all surveyed professionals reported caring for pregnant women and babies affected by extreme heat. Without action, rising temperatures are expected to worsen premature births, stillbirths, and gestational diabetes, exacerbating existing inequalities in healthcare access.
