Eurozone Inflation Risks Remain High Due To Energy Costs: ECB's Nagel

Economic Times Markets · stocks

Eurozone inflation is currently running at 3.8%, significantly above the European Central Bank's 2% target, with risks tilted to the upside. Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel stated that while higher energy costs have not yet translated into broad wage and price pressures, inflationary pressures are expected to remain strong. Energy markets, particularly gas prices due to low storage levels and refining capacity disruptions, are a key concern. Weather and fertilizer shortages also pose risks to food prices. Financial markets anticipate further ECB rate hikes, though Nagel stressed data-dependent flexibility.
