Karnataka has secured an additional 85 lakh tonnes of coal to combat a power crisis exacerbated by drought. Depleted hydel generation and rising demand had strained the state's power sector, leading to dwindling coal stocks at thermal plants. The state government aggressively pursued additional allocations from various coal companies, including Bharat Coking Coal Ltd and Eastern Coalfields Ltd, to ensure uninterrupted power supply. This move provides a crucial buffer, preventing costly power purchases and ensuring energy needs are met.
