Kalawa Rules: How Long To Wear Sacred Thread?

TV9 Hindi · spirituality

In Hinduism, the Kalawa, also known as Mauli or Raksha Sutra, is a sacred red and yellow thread tied on the wrist during religious ceremonies. It symbolizes faith, auspiciousness, and protection. While often tied by priests, questions arise about how long it should be worn. Religious beliefs suggest wearing it for approximately 21 days, or changing it if it becomes dirty, faded, or breaks. Tuesdays and Saturdays are considered auspicious for changing or removing the Kalawa, which should be disposed of respectfully, not in regular trash.
