Low-dose computed tomography (CT) screening can reduce the risk of dying from lung cancer by 16% in high-risk individuals, according to an International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) working group. Published in The New England Journal of Medicine, the assessment found established evidence that this screening method lowers lung cancer mortality. The evidence primarily applies to individuals aged 50 to 80 with significant smoking histories.
