Tamil Nadu's Leader of the Opposition, Udhayanidhi Stalin, has argued before the Madras High Court that an election petition challenging his victory from the Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni constituency was filed beyond the statutory 45-day limit. His counsel contended that the petition should have been filed by June 17, 2026, as he was declared elected on May 4, 2026. The petition was filed on June 18, 2026, making it time-barred according to the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The court is hearing applications to reject the petition without trial.
