केरल के कोझिकोड जिले में पिछले तीन महीनों में फूड सेफ्टी निरीक्षणों के चलते भोजनालयों पर ₹16 लाख से ज़्यादा का जुर्माना लगाया गया है। अधिकारियों ने कई उल्लंघन पाए, जिनमें अस्वास्थ्यकर भोजन तैयार करना, बासी सामग्री का अनुचित भंडारण और बुनियादी स्वच्छता आवश्यकताओं का पालन न करना शामिल है। राज्य सरकार के 'ऑपरेशन थेलीमा' ड्राइव के तहत आक्रामक निरीक्षणों में होटल, बेकरी और सड़क किनारे के भोजनालयों को निशाना बनाया गया। फूड सेफ्टी एंड स्टैंडर्ड्स एक्ट के तहत गैर-अनुपालन के लिए ₹1 लाख से ₹5 लाख तक का जुर्माना लगाया जा सकता है, और अधिक गंभीर अपराधों में कारावास भी हो सकता है।
