Bombay HC Admits PIL Challenging Rs50,000 Pension for Ex-MLAs Without Tenure

The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court has admitted a Public Interest Litigation challenging the provision that grants a lifelong monthly pension of Rs50,000 to former Maharashtra legislators. The petition argues that this provision is unconstitutional as it does not require any minimum tenure or contribution from the members. It highlights that individuals serving for just one day receive the same pension as those completing a full term.

बंबई हाईकोर्ट की नागपुर पीठ ने एक जनहित याचिका स्वीकार कर ली है जो महाराष्ट्र के पूर्व विधायकों को ₹50,000 की आजीवन मासिक पेंशन देने के प्रावधान को चुनौती देती है। याचिका में तर्क दिया गया है कि यह प्रावधान असंवैधानिक है क्योंकि इसके लिए सदस्यों के न्यूनतम कार्यकाल या योगदान की आवश्यकता नहीं है। इसमें कहा गया है कि जो लोग सिर्फ एक दिन के लिए सेवा करते हैं, उन्हें भी उतने ही पैसे मिलते हैं जितने पूरे कार्यकाल वाले को मिलते हैं।
