Ladakh Groups Reject Draft Proposal, Cite Departure From Assurances

Times of India · politics

LAB and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) have rejected a draft government proposal on autonomy, stating it deviates significantly from previous assurances. They urged the Home Ministry to reconsider the draft and accept their memorandum of understanding in its entirety. The groups highlighted the proposal's failure to address demands for a legislative assembly and constitutional safeguards under Article 371, instead suggesting a NEFA-type arrangement. A subsequent meeting is scheduled for October 22 in Delhi, with LAB and KDA planning to submit a detailed response on October 18.
