Times of India · india
The Calcutta High Court has halted the deportation of Sahidul Seikh, a Murshidabad resident suspected of being a Bangladeshi national. Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya emphasized that individuals cannot be detained for two months without due process or on mere suspicion. The court questioned the validity of a deportation order issued solely on the basis of certain statements and the lack of a hearing opportunity for Seikh. The FRRO had ordered his detention and deportation, prompting the court's intervention to ensure legal procedures are followed.
