PU Senate Election Sees New Faces, Few Protest

Panjab University's Registered Graduates constituency election saw only one prominent student protest face, Jodh Singh, secure a Senate seat. Out of 15 elected members, seven are new entrants, while eight are returning. The election followed a dispute over the previous Senate's term ending in October 2024. Voter turnout was 14.6%, a slight increase from 2021. A total of 51 candidates vied for the 15 seats using a single transferable vote system.

पंजाब यूनिवर्सिटी के पंजीकृत स्नातकों के चुनाव क्षेत्र में केवल एक प्रमुख छात्र विरोध चेहरा, जोध सिंह, सीनेट की सीट हासिल कर सका। निर्वाचित 15 सदस्यों में से सात नए हैं, जबकि आठ वापस लौटे हैं। यह चुनाव पिछली सीनेट की अक्टूबर 2024 में समाप्त हो रही अवधि को लेकर हुए विवाद के बाद हुआ। मतदाता मतदान 14.6% रहा, जो 2021 की तुलना में थोड़ी वृद्धि है। कुल 51 उम्मीदवारों ने एकल हस्तांतरणीय वोट प्रणाली का उपयोग करके 15 सीटों के लिए प्रतिस्पर्धा की।
