As part of National Wildlife Week, ITREK, an organization promoting responsible trekking and environmental conservation, planted thirty native tree saplings at Ponmudi on Saturday. The saplings, representing four species native to the Western Ghats, were chosen for their ecological suitability to the Ponmudi ecosystem. Experts from JNTBGRI and the Forest department were consulted for species identification. Among the planted species was Cullenia exarillata, crucial for the endangered lion-tailed macaque. ITREK members also conducted a plastic clean-up drive during the event.
