Gobichettipalayam Residents Block Road Over Precarious Tree

The Hindu · india

Residents in Gobichettipalayam, Tamil Nadu, staged a road blockade on Kalingiyam Road demanding the removal of a nearly 50-year-old tree and the desilting of a roadside drain. They cited concerns that waterlogging from the clogged drain had weakened the tree's roots, posing a risk to the thousands of students and office-goers who use the road daily. Despite prior petitions, no action was taken. Following assurances from officials that the tree would be removed within a week, the protesters ended their hour-long demonstration.
