Eritrea Asks UN Security Council For Deterrence Measures Against Ethiopia

Eritrea has officially requested UN Security Council assistance amid the conflict in Ethiopia's Tigray region. Eritrea's Foreign Minister Osman Saleh urged the UNSC to condemn Ethiopia's declaration of war and take deterrent measures, invoking Chapter VII of the UN Charter. Ethiopia had previously cited self-defense under Article 51 against Eritrea, accusing it of deploying troops and supporting insurgent groups. This escalation follows recent fighting that broke a 2022 peace agreement and deepens the rift between the former allies.
