Two hundred years ago, on October 17, 1814, London experienced a bizarre industrial disaster known as the London Beer Flood. A giant beer vat at Meux & Co's Horse Shoe Brewery burst, unleashing approximately 128,000 to 323,000 gallons of porter. The resulting torrent of beer surged through the densely populated St Giles neighbourhood, destroying homes and tragically killing eight people, including women and children. The brewery survived the incident, receiving financial relief from authorities to offset the significant loss of product.
