Jaunsar Villages Mark Dussehra With Symbolic Taro Stem Battle
Times of India · spirituality
In Jaunsar-Bawar region's Kuroli and Udpalta villages, Dussehra is observed with a unique ritual called Gagli yudh, a symbolic battle using taro stems. This tradition commemorates a century-old tragedy involving two young girls and serves as penance for the villagers. The day begins with prayers and the creation of effigies from banana stems, which are then immersed in water. Following this, villagers engage in a ritualistic dance and song before the elders and youngsters from both communities participate in the taro stem battle.
